The Mortzestus, known as an evil, cursed ship, leaves Frisco harbour holding a new crew. On the high sea, strange things start happening. Sailors were assaulted, rigs were left loose and people kept on seeing phantasmagoric shadows coming aboard to take over the ship. Jessop, the narrator, describes his secret, life threatening dilemma as the hauntings increase, people died and no one really knew what to do. Hodgson's terrifying narrative is a classical page turner.
